People suffered from Diarrhea, Dysentery, Dengue, Typhoid, Malaria etc. Small-pox was also common. Diseases like TB, Cholera and Small-pox killed many every year. The cause of its prevalence were briefly, poverty and consequent inability to procure adequate suitable food, filthy and insanitary environments and occupation, neglect to appreciate the gravity of early symptoms, and lastly, poor physique and diminished power of resistance to disease.
